University of Augsburg

» Short profile

The University of Augsburg was founded in 1970 as the academic center of the Bavarian Southwest. Today, it attracts students from far beyond the region it serves, with only half of the students coming from Augsburg and the immediate vicinity. The number of foreign students, currently 14 percent of the student body, is growing steadily.

There are many facets to the University that make the University of Augsburg so attractive. Both the wide range of courses offered and the manageable size of the campus are conducive to studying. This is offset by the benefits of a vibrant, mediumsized city with a population of 260,000 set in a region that is one of Germany’s most popular holiday destinations.

The Alps with their diverse recreational facilities are within easy reach, as is the Bavarian capital of Munich. Above all, however, Augsburg itself offers maximum quality of living against the backdrop of a history dating back more than 2,000 years to its founding by the Romans, and boasting names such as financier and philanthropist Jacob Fugger, engineer Rudolf Diesel, and poet Bertolt Brecht. Its Renaissance history is still very much alive today in its beautiful architecture, lending the relatively young university town of Augsburg a distinctive charm.
