Research

Research at the University of Bamberg is characterized by a high degree of interdisciplinarity and networking. For example, research and other activities in all medieval studies subjects in Bamberg are brought together in the Center for Medieval Studies (ZEMAS). The Center for Interreligious Studies (ZIS) promotes the understanding of religious symbol systems and interreligious topics. Supported by the DFG (German Research Foundation), the interdisciplinary research group “Education Processes, Competency Development and Formation of Selection Decisions at Pre- and Primary School Age” (BiKS) combines psychological, educational and sociological perspectives on education processes.

Great value is already being laid on interdisciplinary thinking in the promotion of junior academics: rigorous interdisciplinary research takes place in three Research Training Groups, as does close collaborative work with other universities, research organizations and businesses.

Research and studies in Bamberg have a strong European and international component. The University of Bamberg was awarded the European “Volkspartei” Europe Medal in the European Parliament in the spring of 2001. In particular, the “European Business Studies” and “European Economic Studies” (EES) programs exhibit a strong international focus. The Bamberg Center for European Studies (BACES) combines issues relating to Europe across the different faculties.
