University of Bamberg

» Short profile

The “necessity of a thorough education in philosophy and theology” with which Prince-Bishop Melchior Otto Voit von Salzburg justified the establishment of the Academia Ottoniana in 1647 remains relevant even today. Characteristic of the Otto-Friedrich-University is its focus on the humanities and cultural sciences, which is particularly pronounced in four of the six faculties (Catholic Theology, Languages and Literature, History and Geography, Education, Philosophy, and Psychology). Since 1978, Social and Economic Sciences comprise the University’s second major field of study and research. With its newest faculty, Information Systems and Applied Computer Science, the University has extended its subject spectrum in the natural sciences and technology to complete its overall profile in the humanities and cultural sciences, as well as in the social and economic sciences.

Many of the degrees are unique to the University of Bamberg in that they are practically oriented and relevant to both international and present-day concerns. These features increase our graduates’ employment prospects, making Bamberg an excellent choice.
