If you are interested in studying at a Bavarian University, please first contact the International Office (Akademisches Auslandsamt) at any university in Bavaria. Here you will find a wealth of information on the program of your choice, as well as application, admission and enrolment details. This office also organizes introductory events for international students where you can get to know your fellow students and hear about student initiatives such as political work-groups, activities such as the student choir and orchestra, sports and theater groups and much more. The International Offices are also responsible for helping international students in various ways, such as providing information on the planning and financing of their degree course, finding accommodation, and dealing with bureaucracy and the authorities.

 

The Studentenwerke, the student services organizations, are another important contact at each university. They provide services for all aspects of student life, from housing and meal plans to counseling, leisure activities, and much more. A small fee is required for these basic services each semester, with additional services, service packages, and their costs varying from one university to another.

 

The Higher Education Compass website www.hochschulkompass.de of the German Rectors’ Conference (Deutsche Hochschulrektorenkonferenz, or HRK) offers an easy introduction to studying in Bavaria. The Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD) is the most important provider of scholarships for studying in Germany. Their website www.daad.de offers a comprehensive database with information on the possibilities of sponsorship for studying in Germany – including those of other sponsors. A personal consultation is also available from German embassies and consulates abroad, as well as from the Goethe Institute and DAAD information centers.
