University of Erlangen-Nuremberg

» Short profile

The hallmark of North Bavaria’s largest University is the exceptionally broad range of subjects on offer. Since its foundation in 1743, the traditional branches of learning have always been open to new developments and adapted to innovation while expanding accordingly. In academia today, networking, flexibility, and lateral thinking are in greater demand than ever before. Rapid changes in science and the economy increasingly generate new key areas in research and teaching.

Erlangen, with its 100,000 inhabitants and home of the Hugenots, cyclists, and megaconcern Siemens, as well as Nuremberg, a city of 500,000 inhabitants, are ideal university cities with an outstanding variety of cultural highlights. After a hard day of hitting the books, the opera, theaters, museums, cabaret, and a lively nightlife scene await our students. Each year brings a calendar full of important events, including Erlangen’s Audio Art Festival, Comic Salon, Marionette Festival, Poetry Festival and Arena, the International Festival of Young Contemporary Theater. In Nuremberg, numerous theaters open their doors to culture fans for the famous Blue Night. The region known as “Franconian Switzerland,” a paradise for rock climbers and hikers, is right at our doorstep. The beautiful lake scenery “Neues Fränkisches Seenland” meets the needs of all watersports enthusiasts.
