The University of Passau, a small campus university situated in idyllic surroundings on the banks of the River Inn, admitted its first students in 1978. Despite being predominantly orientated towards the arts, a wide range of courses emphasizes foreign languages, interdisciplinarity, practice orientation, and contacts abroad. The fact that 40 percent of students come from other federal states or from abroad attests to the fact that Passau is a popular place to study.
