Areas of research emphasis are developed at individual institutes and centers. The Institute for Research into East Bavarian History concentrates on the East Bavarian cultural region. Representatives of various legal disciplines convene to work together at the Institute for Agricultural Law and Environmental Law, the only one of its kind in Bavaria. The Institute for International and Foreign Law and the Center for European Law are dedicated to interdisciplinary work. The Center for Market-Oriented Tourist Research (CenTouris) is active in the areas of consultancy and market research. The Institute for Financial Planning (IFP) develops further education concepts for consultancy of private customers. The Institute for Intercultural Communication at the University of Passau (ink.up) combines existing intercultural competences and makes them available to businesses and public institutions. The Institute for Applied Ethics in Economy and Education (ethikWAW) facilitates the intercultural dialogue between ethics and economy.

 

The Research Center for Legal Questions Regarding the Modernisation of Public Administration and University Administration deals with the legal aspects of the process of modernisation at universities and in public administration. The Bavarian Research Center for Knowledge-Based Systems (FORWISS) at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Studies devotes itself to the practical application of pure research as regards artificial intelligence. The main emphasis at the Institute for Information Systems and Software Technology (IFIS) is the application of Computer Studies. “InteLeC – Integrated eLearning Campus” is an interdisciplinary research and development project that aims to provide a new infrastructure to all areas of teaching and studying. This is achieved through close collaboration among researchers representing all five faculties and the central university administration.
