With the expansion of the biotechnological center (BioPark) on campus, the synergies between science and industry are ideally utilized. Due to its geographic location, the University has always considered itself a bridge between East and West. With the EUROPAEUM, it has set up an interdisciplinary center for research and teaching as pertains to Central, Eastern and Southeastern European countries. The Bavarian University Centre for Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe „Bayerische Hochschulzentrum für Mittel-, Ost- und Südosteuropa" (BAYHOST ), which is a service centre for all Bavarian universities, also is situated at the University of Regensburg. Additional effects from the synergy of research on Eastern Europe have resulted through the successful settling of the Research Centre for Eastern and Southern Europe "Wissenschaftszentrum Ost- und Südosteuropa" (WIOS) at the end of 2007, which is linked institutionally with the University.
