University of Würzburg

» Research

With its nine areas of special scientific/medical research, its graduate colleges, and its research groups and research centers, the University of Würzburg is one of the most renowned research universities in Germany. A report published by the Federal Ministry of Research lists Würzburg as one of the top universities in the field of Biomedicine not only in Germany, but internationally as well.

How well deserved this high ranking is and the quality of the interdisciplinary research can be seen in the Biocenter. Here a close collaboration reigns between 10 chairs from the faculties of Biology, Medicine, Chemistry, and Pharmacy who work together in the state-of-the-art Microstructure Laboratory and in modern research centers such as the Rudolf Virchow Center (DFG Research Center for Experimental Biomedicine) and the Center for Experimental Molecular Medicine (ZEMM). The University of Würzburg is renowned as one of the universities in Germany with the highest concentration on research. It ranks among the top 10 universities in attracting outside funds for research from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. The University maintains separate departments for coordinating and obtaining research funding, for knowledge and technology transfer, as well as for career guidance.
